About
A betta with a torn fin, and a very handsome shipwreck
Ocean Blue Aquariums is a sole proprietorship based in Hyderabad, Telangana, operating online as Novella Circle (novellacircle.shop).
How this started
A half-moon betta in a tank in Hyderabad, and an ornamental shipwreck bought because it looked wonderful in the photograph. Within a week his trailing fin had a tear in it. The culprit was a moulding seam inside a porthole — invisible in the listing, sharp enough to catch a fin.
The second problem was slower and worse: a painted ornament that began flaking after two months, putting pigment into the water. Neither product was sold as dangerous. Neither listing mentioned the finish at all.
Decor is the only thing in a tank that can hurt the fish while looking like a gift.
Our commitment
Seams checked by hand
Every resin piece is run over by hand for moulding seams and sharp edges before it is listed. Pieces that fail are not stocked.
Aquarium-safe finishes only
No painted surfaces that flake, no metal fittings, no unsealed plaster. If we cannot confirm the material is inert, it does not go on the site.
Said plainly for long fins
Each listing states whether we would put it in a betta or fancy goldfish tank, because that is a different question from whether it is safe in general.
Our story
The range is short and stays short. We would rather stock twelve pieces we have checked than a hundred drop-shipped ornaments whose resin we know nothing about.
Where a piece needs preparing before it goes in — driftwood that must be soaked for two weeks, a cave that should be rinsed — the listing says so, and so does the FAQ below. Selling you something that needs work and not mentioning the work is how tanks get ruined.
Online only
There is no showroom and no walk-in counter. Novella Circle trades entirely online and ships across India from Hyderabad, Telangana, which keeps overheads off the price of the goods.
